$100K ACC Clean Energy Business Plan Challenge-New Information!

WHAT

The Department of Energy is conducting the “ACC Clean Energy Business Plan Challenge” in order to select one winning business plan from the ACC Universities and award them $100,000 to execute their business plan.  One team from each ACC school will be selected to attend the final competition in Maryland to compete for the $100,000 award. The solicitation can be found at http://www.mtech.umd.edu/accnrg/. These new startups can be based on university research or can be a new business that uses or bundles existing technologies in novel ways, but they need to fit the programs of interest as identified by the Department of Energy as indicated in the “Entries Accepted” section of the rules.

WHO

The business plan competition is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff from NC State University. Teams may come together in a variety of ways but should include business and technology skill sets but close attention should be paid to the competition’s rules to ensure your team qualifies.  Springboard, in the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development is bringing together university resources including the Entrepreneurship Initiative (EI), Office of Technology Transfer’s New Venture Services, and the TEC Program in the Poole College of Management to pursue developing the best clean energy startup projects available.

WHEN

NC State is currently gathering project ideas and putting together a list of students who would like to be considered for placement on a team.  Teams will be assembled in early January.  The first deadline is February 20, 2012 where upon Executive Summaries are due. The Southeast Regional Finals Competition will be held at the University of Maryland on April 24 and 25th.

WHY

The purpose of the ACC Clean Energy Business Plan Challenge is to create a business plan competition that creates new clean energy startup concepts and provides $100,000 in initial funding to get one company started.
