Andy Albright Speaks at Student Network Meeting

November 8, 2012

There was standing room only at Thursday’s Student Network meeting when over 50 students and faculty gathered to hear from veteran entrepreneur Andy Albright. Albright is the President and CEO of National Agents Alliance (NAA), which is arguably the country’s largest and most successful insurance marketing organization.

Albright, a 1986 N.C. State graduate, remains heavily involved with his alma mater by sponsoring the Entrepreneurs Lecture Series and serving on the Entrepreneurship Initiative Advisory Board.

His brand of no-nonsense wisdom for young entrepreneurs always makes for lively conversation.

“[NAA’s] motto is to have fun, make money, and make a difference in people’s lives,” said Albright. “We play to win, but we’re going to laugh along the way.”

Dr. Tom Miller, executive director of the Entrepreneurship Initiative, said Albright’s appearances are always wildly popular with EI students. He said Albright’s willingness to give of his time and energy is incredibly valuable to students at N.C. State.

Albright also shared NAA’s business philosophy of putting people first. He acknowledged that while the life insurance industry may seem like a standardized vehicle, his company emphasizes building relationships with the individuals it serves.

“People follow people,” Albright explained. “It’s not about titles; it’s [about] courage.”

Abright’s final thoughts were ones of encouragement to the students. He talked about the power of a question and advised them to always ask for what they want.

“No doesn’t mean anything; it just means not right now,” he mused.

Albright, who co-founded NAA in 2002, has appeared in regional North Carolina magazines and newspapers, and his company NAA was selected from a pool of 35,000 area businesses as the North Carolina Triad’s Fastest Growing Company by Greensboro’s Triad Business Journal in 2007. He was named to the Triad’s 2011 Movers & Shakers list by Business Leader magazine, and appears on several national radio shows annually.

The Entrepreneurship Initiative’s Student Network is a student-led group that works to spread entrepreneurial thinking and activity throughout the campus. Meetings are held every other Thursday at 6 pm in the Garage.
