Benefits of Participation

“The best reason to start an organization is to make meaning — to create a product or service that makes the world a better place.”
— Guy Kawasaki, The Art of the Start

We invite you to find out by learning how to “make meaning” through the Entrepreneurship Initiative at NC State. How involved you get is your choice. You can attend free lectures and workshops from experts on topics ranging from developing working prototypes to writing business plans or seeking funding. Or maybe you’d like to meet entrepreneurs who can share their experiences on what it takes to succeed, from meeting with powerful investors to sweeping the floors at night — all while maintaining their relationships and social lives.

Maybe you’d like to take a course — or several — to learn more of the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Maybe the Entrepreneurship Minor is for you. Maybe the Engineering Entrepreneurs Program, or the Technology Entrepreneurship Commercialization Program. Or an internship with a start-up. Maybe you’d find your place in the Entrepreneurs Club, with its speakers, workshops and projects. Maybe you want to change the world.

Few things are more energizing than spending time with students at your alma mater — they bring back memories of all-nighters, dreaded courses that you ultimately aced, and forged friendships that will last a lifetime. It’s remarkable how quickly you get caught up in the enthusiasm of their dreams and goals. It’s also incredible how eager students are to learn from you, how they will value your “real-world” experiences more than any theories and admonitions from the Ivory Tower of their professors.

You can get involved by coming to a meet-and-greet, inviting students to your workplace, mentoring a team, helping with networking, arranging an internship, or speaking to a class. Or let us know how you see your involvement. We invite you to help a student change the world.

Remember what it was like to hit what felt like a dead end, bringing your dreams to a screeching halt? And remember what it was like to get that word of encouragement — a lead — that piece of advice that gave you the drive to keep on? You can be that word — that lead — and give the advice that helps a young dreamer evolve into a successful entrepreneur.

You can share your expertise with NC State students by speaking to a group, taking them on a tour of your company, mentoring a team, participating in an assignment, or supporting student activities. Or let us know how you want to help. We invite you to use your world to help somebody change his or hers.
