Elementary School Outreach
Fred Olds Elementary and the Engineering Entrepreneurs Program (EEP) at NC State started a collaboration in 2009 focused on entrepreneurship that continues today. The EEP works with Fred Olds in two ways. In the first program, termed the “Toy Project,” the college students design and build toys for the kindergartners in a competition-like setting. Here, the Toy Project teaches college students the basics of entrepreneurship and new product development while engaging kindergartners in the process.
The second project focuses more on the development of entrepreneurial skills of 4th and 5th grades. This project, entitled Entrepreneurs Learning Unit is a week long sequence where elementary school students form teams and develop a business from scratch with the help of college student mentors.
The intent of providing this information online is to give colleges and elementary schools opportunities to reproduce the material in their own schools. The videos here give a high level overview, and there are accompanying documents that provide more information. Please feel free to contact us at entrepreneurship@ncsu.edu for questions.
